I love bio-hacking and trying new natural health products that will boost my nutritional intake and have natural health benefits. I’ve been using Reishi mushroom extract powder for over a year in my coffee for its immune and brain health support. When I discovered there were liquid mushroom extracts available, I was keen to give them ago.
I purchase a box set of 5 extracts from Life Cykel at the beginning of the COVID -19 lock-down as I thought it would be a great way to support my health naturally, and since then I have been using them every day. Depending on how I’m feeling and what time of day it is, this how I’ve been using them:
- Immune health: Turkey Tail, Reishi
- Gut/ Brain: Lion’s Mane, Turkey Tail
- Beauty: Shiitake & Reishi
- Performance: Lion’s Mane & Cordyceps
- AM/ focus: Cordyceps, Turkey Tail & Shiitake
- PM/ Relaxtion: Lion’s Mane & Reishi
Keep in mind mushroom extracts are not a fad or gimmicky product. Medicinal mushrooms have been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine for their therapeutic benefits. You'll see if you visit Life Cykel's website they back up their information with links to scientific studies.

How to use Liquid Mushroom Extract
It’s as simple as adding 2ml of liquid mushroom extract to your favourite drink like tea, a smoothie, juice, coffee or soup.
The extracts have a mild flavour so they don’t overpower your drink. I often take the extracts neat without adding them to a drink.
Each extract from Life Cykel has a dropper with ml markings which makes measuring 2ml super easy.
Having tried both powered and liquid extracts I personally like the liquid extracts over the powered extracts as you don’t need to worry about dissolving the power in your drink (Getting a chunk of powered extract at the bottom of your coffee doesn't taste great!)
Bio-Hacking Health Benefits of Mushroom Extracts:
Turkey Tail
Turkey Tail is high in beta-glucan, which has powerful immune-boosting properties including a compound call polysaccharopeptide (PSP) which helps to produce immune cells called cytokines that are required in your body’s immune response. PSP is also thought to have prebiotic properties making it supportive for gut health.
Lion’s Mane
Supports neural growth, is an anti-inflammatory, supports brain function and antibacterial and antioxidant activity. It helps to improve sleep quality and mood.
Cordyceps
The bioactive compound in this mushroom reduces inflammation and oxidative stress and increases libido and antimicrobial properties.
Widely used to enhance your energy by supporting mitochondria function which in turn produces a compound call ATP (vital energy our body produces at a cellular level).
Reishi
Reishi contains beta- glucans that support the immune system. It has been used for hundreds of years in Chinese medicine for its calmative effects. It is well known for improving the quality of sleep and relaxation.
Shiitake
With bio-active compounds, Shiitake is supportive for cardiovascular health and the immune system. These mushrooms are effective in skin and hair health as they protect from UV light and are a rich source of vitamin D and may improve skin elasticity.
I believe that prevention is better than cure. So making informed choices and taking a proactive approach to our personal health and wellbeing is and one of the best ways you can look after yourself.
