I KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO FEEL OVERWHELMED AND DEPLETED - MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. I’VE BEEN ALL THREE!
For years I pushed through feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and depleted simply because I thought it was normal. “This is just life. We are all busy and have stuff going on. I just need to suck it up and get on with it” is what I often told myself.
But the daily grind was grinding me down. Juggling kids, work, study and other family health challenges. Life, in general, was taking its toll. My stress levels were through the roof and I felt burnt out, my head was always foggy, constantly tired and my nerves were frayed.
Deep down I knew there must be a better way to live life. I wanted more enjoyment and fulfillment. I wanted to feel excited about life and have the energy and the get-up-and-go I used to have before life felt so complicated.
But I felt stuck and couldn’t see how I could make things better and I was starting to feel resentful, unappreciated, with very little resilience for even the littlest of things that came up in my day to day life.
At this point I’m thinking “is this it? Is this really what adult life is about? If it is - I want out. Something has got to give." This is about when I hit the breaking point. You know that point??
When you know if you don’t make changes
then nothing is going to change.
I could either fall in a heap and cry myself to sleep at night (I did that on more than a few occasions) or I can put on my big girl knickers, take responsibility and do something about how shit I was feeling.
So… I started to make changes.
Not just for me but so I could show up in all areas of my life a better version of me- particularly for my kids and family. I wanted to be the happier, healthy more energised version of me. Over the next few years I took lots of baby steps.....
- I worked with coaches and healers to release limiting beliefs and build self-confidence.
- I worked with natural health practitioners to help strengthen my physical and emotional health.
- I had sessions with energy healers and learnt about energy therapies to help clear and rebalance my body's natural energy.
- I prioritised nourishing and nutritious foods that fueled my body and improved my energy and reduce brain fog
- I made time for exercise, rest, mindfulness and meditation.
- I had a big focus on my energy and how I was showing up in my day to day
- I followed my joy and did things that made me happy and less of what didn't
Most importantly I gave myself permission to start putting myself first and taking the time to restore my health and happiness.
Because I realised that while I had focused on taking care of others, in the process I had stopped taking care of myself. But over time, by making consistent, daily choices to prioritise my mind, body and soul health, it has made an ENORMOUS difference in my life.
I hope by sharing a little of my experiences that some of it may resonate with you and perhaps you have your own light bulb moment where you see that although life can be at times overwhelming, exhausting and stressful...... things can be different…. if you are willing to take action and make changes.
